I dont wait

The worst thing in the world to do is 'to wait'
wait for winter
then wait for summer
wait to grow up
then wait for anti ageing, fairness creams to work
wait to get married
then wait to get divorced

wait for the bus
wait for the lights to turn green
wait on your friend
wait for the waiter
wait for the food
wait for the bill
wait! wait! wait!!!
It just doesnt end anywhere

Back then in the 80's, every year i waited for my birthday to come round.
What came instead was everyone else's birthday, where i was invited to and had lot of fun and saw them getting loads of gifts.

I was 4 or 5 years old then
We lived in the Type IV Govt quarters of Naroji nagar, Delhi. I still remember was the corner, first floor quarter, G-194
living and growing up in the govt quarters is a different culture.
Here you may not know anyone, but then no one is a stranger.
Children wouldnt get lost if they wandered off, it wouldnt be difficult to find any address, no one was left out being invited in marriages of people you never knew existed, and everyone knew if you had cute boys and girls in your household.

My parents never believed in announcing the excitements of life, like birthdays etc...

Year after year after having so much fun at other parties this year had to be different. This evening i was on my regular dosage of 'Johnny and the giant robot' on our black and white tv.
someone knocked at the door.I remember the first person..it was Niti, Sunny's sister who lived on the same ground.

'Grounds' are made of 2-3 facing blocks of quarters of the same alphabetical series.they have a common playground and thus they all belong to the 'ground'

Then entered few more children with blue and yellow paper wrapped gifts in their hands.thats when my mother smelled smoke.I was taken to the other room and on being questioned, I confessed having invited every child on the ground for my birthday.

Coming to this part I am not really sure if it was really my birthday or I had just invited them for 'it'

However with a look mixed with anger and confusion my father went to get food for the guests. I was warned not to do such a thing without prior notice.

But a lesson was learnt...
My parents got the early signs of a rebel. A prior notice to all the future events that would take place in our lives.
